Exhibit: Paper History Part 2 - The Envelope Explosion, 1851-1922
(Above) The Gould's, of stock market and railroad fame, never did anything in a small way. Five large paper mills in the Gould conglomerate are depicted on their stationary envelopes. The Lyons Falls Mill, shown in this turn of century postcard, is 2d from left in the woodcut engraving.
The WESTPEX 06 exhibit will be in the display class. Display class allows for the inclusion of picture postcards such as the one above. Postcards provide the viewer with some perspective on the subject material. Such was the pride these communities had in their industry, it became very popular to circulate postcards with photographs of the local paper mill.
The plan for the exhibit will be 5 frames, with 16 pages per frame. Usually two different items are mounted on a page, so about 160 items total will be shown. The exhibitor will be in attendance at the show on Friday and Saturday.
